The Villa Uniform: Rethinking conventional hospitality attire

A great hotel experience can be defined by the details – the quality of service, the unique ambience and the pride that the members of staff take in their appearance. We decided to challenge our perceptions surrounding traditional hospitality uniforms, partnering with local design studio Sur le Chemin to create a capsule collection of workwear tailored to the Villa Copenhagen team.

We are committed to deviating from and questioning conventional hospitality concepts in all aspects of our hotel service. Partnering with a small, conscious studio such as Sur le Chemin allowed us to ensure that our values are translated into the workwear of our staff, creating a bespoke uniform that is both timeless and contemporary.

Working with high-quality, sustainable fabrics such as organic cotton, wool and Tencel, the collection is designed to provide function and comfort while maintaining a cohesive and highly-professional appearance.

“At Sur le Chemin design studio we quite often play around with the term uniform and the meaning of the word when it comes to the way we dress on a daily basis. We all have our favourites that we turn back to again and again, becoming a personal uniform. From the beginning, it was clear to us that the uniform we wanted to develop should not be referred to as a uniform and should not have the traditional character of a uniform.”

– Kjetil Aas, Creative Director at Sur le Chemin.

“We wanted the staff to reflect Copenhagen. We wanted them to dress differently, so the guest is met with diversity and personality” says Kjetil Aas of Sur le Chemin.

Capsule workwear that feels like home
When designing the garments, Sur le Chemin combined the studio’s signature design ethos with Villa’s unique principles. Departing from traditional hotel uniform concepts, the studio created a bespoke collection representing the enduring spirit of both the hotel and the dynamic city it calls home.

“We wanted the staff to reflect Copenhagen. We wanted them to dress differently, so the guest is met with diversity and personality” says Kjetil Aas of Sur le Chemin.

The Villa uniform reflects the youthfulness of contemporary Vesterbro, as well as the classic character of Copenhagen’s historic city centre.

“By focusing on creating a capsule collection instead of a traditional uniform collection, we ended up with a look that gives you the feeling of what you see on the streets of Copenhagen; a mix of Nordic simplicity and a subtle modern vibe.”
